Heavy duty transport fans with V-belt drive are normally used for conveying of dust laden air. Special high pressure fans are used for pneumatic conveying of dust.

High efficiency fans with aerofoil blades are used for conveying of clean air. The highest possible energy efficiency is achieved by using direct driven fans with inverter control.
